      Stephen D. Lee Bust

The Lee Bust and Plaza is on the north end of the Drill Field. The brick seat wall was notated by the Chi Omega (Phi Delta Chapter) in June 1986. The inscription on the seat says, “Chi Omega in commemoration of fifty years at Mississippi State University 1936-1986. Phi Delta Chapter."

The Lee Bust, by sculptor Theo Alice Ruggles Kitson, is made of brass. The inscription reads “Stephen Dill Lee. Lieutenant General CSA. First President Agricultural and Mechanical College of Mississippi.” The bust was donated during the 1909 spring commencement to the university by Lee's only child, Blewitt Lee. It originally was located in Lee Hall, and was moved to its present location in 1913.
